Yes, quite agree. Although we have only been part of St Peter's for 2 years, John was always enormously helpful and welcoming. We were very shocked by the news and feel terribly sad for Mary.

Thanks, Paul. Hadn't come across this before, but guessed correctly that I'd find it in HFTC! Will bear it in mind for future occasions. Have a blessed Easter at St John's! Mick

And here's a good hymn by Timothy Dudley-Smith that we used at St John's, Old Coulsdon, today:

No weight of gold or silver
can measure human worth;
no soul secures its ransom
with all the wealth of earth:
no sinners find their freedom
but by the gift unpriced,
the Lamb of God unblemished,
the precious blood of Christ.

Our sins, our griefs and troubles
he bore and made his own;
we hid our faces from him,
rejected and alone;
his wounds are for our healing,
our peace is by his pain
¬behold, the Man of sorrows,
the Lamb for sinners slain!

In Christ the past is over,
a new world now begins;
with him we rise to freedom
who saves us from our sins:
we live by faith in Jesus
to make his glory known
¬behold, the Man of sorrows,
the Lamb upon his throne!

A sad day for the community! I can recommend Rahim's on Rectory Lane as an alternative should the curry pangs not subside. Mohamed and co are attentive and can rustle up most dishes to order. They're on 01737 55 66 33.
